Angove Family Winemakers

Angove Family Winemakers was established in 1886 by Dr. William Thomas Angove, a medical doctor from Cornwall in England. The Angove family’s adventures in wine began as a hobby, with William planting a small patch of vines in Tea Tree Gully, in the Adelaide foothills. Initially, he harvested the fruit to create tonics to ease his patients’ ailments.
Dr Angove’s original vineyard was planted predominantly to Shiraz and Riesling, with his first wines carefully crafted in the historic ‘Brightlands’ cellar in Tea Tree Gully. By the turn of the century, these plantings had increased from 4 to 40 hectares, and a purpose-built winery and distillery had been set up in Tea Tree Gully to process the nearly 300 tonnes of grapes harvested annually.
Now in its fifth generation of family leadership, Angove Family Winemakers is dedicated to embracing evolutionary ideas, with a focus on maintaining relevancy and ensuring sustainability for future generations to come.

Winemaking is a blend of science and art; a craft that captures the soil, site, and season. From soil to grape to glass, growing grapes and making wine has always been at the heart of the Angove DNA with the belief that great wines begin in the vineyard, are crafted and polished in the winery, and served with pride and conviction.

Angove’s 100-year-old winery benefits from both traditional and modern winemaking equipment and techniques. Specifically, the modern small batch micro winery handles our premium McLaren Vale and organic wines. These wines are crafted using traditional hand plunging for our smaller stainless steel open fermenters, while our historic 8 tonne concrete open fermenters are gently pumped over. These methods guarantee extraction of vibrant colour and pristine varietal flavours. Maturation in the temperature controlled barrel hall ensures our wines also maintain freshness and vibrancy throughout the aging process.
Accredited to the highest standard, the state-of-the-art bottling facility guarantees Angove wines are estate bottled and packed with care and love, under the watchful and ever-present eyes of the family and their team.
