Traversing a line between artist and craftsman, Ross has honed his unique skills over many years, places and studies. Growing up in Ballarat, Ross completed a pre apprenticeship before moving into an apprenticeship in Daylesford in 2010.
After pausing his apprenticeship, Ross then completed a bachelor of music in Melbourne, tapping into the creativity that had yet to be fully explored. Overseas trips to Europe and America proved to be the catalyst for change, being deeply inspired by the styles of Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Art Deco, Bauhaus and Mid-century Modern movements. Returning in 2016, Ross resolved to combine his talents as a woodworker, but also his newfound creative confidence and collected inspiration to begin Ross Thompson Furniture in Geelong, Victoria.
Ross blends traditional furniture intricacies and contemporary minimal design principles to create elegant and aesthetically minded pieces.
