The idea behind Odyssey is that every tree felled to create the timber we use, from the simplest piece of hardware store stud pine – to the finest master-grade Blackwood, has a story, and that story deserves to be shared and celebrated.
Odyssey Timberworks is a passion project brought about by it’s founder, Jake Russell. Jake is an award-winning furniture maker operating out of DC Studio in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, with experience in everything from high-end, custom projects featuring both veneer and solid timber, to kitchen and bathroom cabinets and everything in between. His skill-base is broad, and his knowledge of timber is extensive. It is this knowledge that he also shares passionately as an apprentice trainer at TAFE, teaching both cabinet and furniture making.
Utilizing both traditional and contemporary methods, a focus on sustainability, longevity, functionality, and beauty is achieved at every level of design. Jake’s philosophy is that timber is an incredible resource that deserves to be celebrated and appreciated, and that is achieved by carefully sourcing and selecting the materials used.
Timelessness and longevity leading to lower environmental impact is a cornerstone of the design process, so each piece that carries the trademark four-square Odyssey logo has been designed not only to last multiple lifetimes, but to make maintenance (and if necessary, repair) as manageable and as simple as possible.
