Peter Walker

As an old school furniture maker I use traditional mortice and tenon, housing and dovetail joints to build my pieces of furniture. Although I use traditional methods my designs are modern, timeless and stunning. By using techniques that have been tried and tested for thousands of years you can be rest assured that your piece of Peter Walker Furniture will last for generations. It’s uncommon in this day and age that these skills are still practised, as the modern day “furniture maker” often limit themselves to what new technology and machines can do, rather than what can be created by using hand tools.

The furniture is handcrafted in my studio workshop in Perth, Western Australia, and is made with meticulous attention to detail and with the utmost of care. With hardware sourced from around the world to complement my furniture, there is absolutely no compromise on quality. The timber is hand selected for each design, so no two pieces are ever identical. The use of simple and smooth lines in the design allows for the natural beauty of the timber to really shine through.

All of my furniture is handcrafted from varieties of Australian and international hardwoods, including sheoak, jarrah, marri, ash, cherry, maple, walnut and oak. My designs are inspired by the actual timber itself – it is extremely rewarding to see the natural timber grain come to life again. For that reason, I prefer to use oils and waxes for an environmentally friendly but durable finish.
Peter Walker Furniture offers a bespoke service, so furniture can be made to measure to your exact requirements, using a choice of Australian or international timbers.
